10-Sec Self-Massage for Stress

wellness-589770_1280For decades, Maria Shriver has been an inspiration to me, so it was extra exciting this week when she named me one of her “Architects of Change” and published an article I wrote on her website MariaShriver.com.

Here’s a bit of the article, entitled “How a 10 Second Self-Massage Can Help Relieve Stress.” To read the full article, click here.

When I’m stressed-out, the last thing I want to do at the end of the day is work out, or make a healthy dinner, or talk to anyone. Really, all I want to do is pour myself a glass of wine and crash in front of the TV. So it’s no wonder to me that in today’s plugged-in “24-hour society,” in which everyone leads an incredibly hectic lifestyle, self-care is often the first thing to go when stress kicks in. When we’re stressed, our brains go into fight-or-flight mode, and our perspective on how to cope with stress narrows. It happens to everyone! Rather than pay attention to how stress is affecting us and actually do something about it, we either ignore it or complain about it and procrastinate in doing anything to remedy the situation. In both cases, we neglect ourselves and end up suffering physically and mentally.

This massages are a great asset for the senior citizens that live with back or body pain.

Massage therapy for seniors and the elderly offers many physical and mental benefits, which results in the improvement of health and general well-being. It can improve conditions ranging from chronic pain to a general sense of malaise, and for healthy individuals it can make it much easier to start or continue regular exercise, there are great offers senior and elderly care can take advantage of for each individual call or to work mainly for the home care system.

The techniques used for seniors differ greatly from those used with younger individuals. While similar in technique to other forms of massage, senior massage considers the special needs of their needs.

Mobility challenges may sometimes dictate the massage be done in a bed or wheelchair. The massage therapist may also work both sides of the body at the same time to enhance body awareness, or only work hands and feet, if the client prefers.

No more excuses. You don’t have to be a prisoner of stress anymore!  Read more…
